Progress Report: Un(limited) Mobile on Mac (with Swisscom)

As nova media speculated that my EDGE card would have a hardware issue, I took the opportunity to test my configuration (same PowerBook and Software Installation) with different cards from friends:
  1. The test with another EDGE card (Option Globetrotter COMBO EDGE) showed the same issues as described in this earlier post. That means - no hardware issue on the card itself. Maybe my PowerBook or any software component involved.
  2. I tested the UMTS edition (Option Globetrotter FUSION). Initial connection after configuration with nova media software is fine - no PowerBook/connection freeze. My location had a weak UMTS signal - the card switched multiple times between UMTS and GPRS during the connection - that caused erratic network behavior. After a restart or remove & insert of the card the connection can not be established (unless you run the nova media software that does the init). This is kind of the same issue as with the EDGE card - but looking at the connection log shows that the cause of the issue is much later in the process "No network protocols running" while trying to get a IP address from DHCP (the EDGE card can't even answer to AT commands before the connection is even established).
Haven't had the time to play around with different AT commands yet.

To be continued...
