Progress report: Swisscom (Un)limited on the EDGE

Got a friendly mail from nova media that most probably my Option Globetrotter COMBO EDGE card is broken (hardware issue). I would believe that instantly if the card would not work on Windows XP SP2 too - but it is working flawlessly with Swisscom Unlimited Data Manager V1.6 (that is using the original Option Drivers).

My wild guess #1: The Card Firmware has a bug that - depending how the card is initialised - can be avoided - and that's what Option is doing with their Windows drivers and nova media doesn't. (No offends - I just want to solve the issue and share my thoughts)

Comparing the AT commands send to the card in Windows vs. Mac shows differences (I know that there is more than just the AT commands to make this card working - but that's the only thing I found to log - any hint about how to log low level communication to a PC Card on Windows and Mac are welcome).

Mac OS X with driver from nova media:

AT&F
ATV1E1X1
AT+CGDCONT=9,"IP","gprs.swisscom.ch",""
AT+CGQMIN=9
AT+CGQREQ=9
ATD*99***9#

Windows XP with Modem Driver from Option:

AT
AT&F&D2&C1E0V1S0=0
AT+IFC=2,2
ATS0=0
AT
AT&F&D2&C1E0V1S0=0
AT+IFC=2,2
ATD*##***##

That looks very different - need to find a reference about all these AT commands to understand what the real difference is.

To be continued...
